For the first time in ten year, Mesh did a gig in The Netherlands. And that means I’ll be seeing them twice this year (next stop: Call The Ship To Port). Two conclusions from this concert: First, Mesh are great! And second, seeing how small the scene is in my home country, I realise why I love going to Germany for concerts so much. The crowd that was there was wonderful, but really, Mesh deserve more!
First on were support act Auger, who – as Mark said – drove from the UK in a van. Bless them! Music-wise the band sounded very inspired by Blutengel (always good). The setlist consisted of 9 songs, though we heard 10 … Personal favourites: Feline and My Guardian.
Mesh performed a great mixture of old and new – I don’t envy anyone having to create a setlist of 19 songs from their vast repertoire, because it would be so difficult to choose! It was wonderful to see the whole crowd jumping along to songs like From This Height and The Last One Standing. I love the powerful live version of Firefly, and songs like I Can’t Imagine How It Hurts and The Trouble We’re In remain wonderful, even after all those years. Favourite moment was at the end of Open Up The Ground, when Mark was getting ready for another round of singing but the band had just ended the song. And I’ve got it on video! Will be posting to YouTube soon.
